Laura Hardt Therapist
My priority is to help people feel safe, heard, and understood. I develop a strong therapeutic relationship with clients by building real and authentic connections, listening without judgment, accepting people as they are, and making space to laugh together. In my work, I empower clients by helping them to reflect on what influences their thoughts, feelings, and behaviours, and exploring what might be getting in the way of the change they want to see. We all have strengths and resiliencies; I work collaboratively with clients to uncover and harness them to help people live as the preferred version of themselves.
As an individual, couple, and family therapist, I create a space that is welcoming for individuals from diverse sexual orientations, races, gender identities, abilities, religions, socioeconomic statuses, and cultures. I work on concerns including life transitions, depression, anxiety, anger, communication, trust, feeling ‘stuck,’ parenting and co-parenting, separation, sex and intimacy, monogamy and non-monogamy, and more. Whatever the concern, I foster an environment where people feel validated, comfortable, and important.
I received a Master of Science in Couple and Family Therapy from the University of Guelph. I am a Registered Psychotherapist and a Pre-Clinical Fellow with the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT). Knowing that no single approach is best for every person, I have extensive clinical training in Narrative, Emotionally-Focused, Solution-Focused, and Dialogic Therapy, and draw upon Gottman Method Couples Therapy, Attachment Theory, and current clinical research. In addition, I am experienced in the principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) and previously worked as a senior behaviour therapist with children and their families seeking support in building communication skills and addressing behaviours associated with autism.
