Stephanie Mather, MA, RP

Style & Approach:

My name is Stephanie Mather. I’m a Registered Psychotherapist and I support individuals who are struggling to make sense of life and the challenges they face. I often see my role as being a compassionate witness, as I genuinely believe that you are the expert of you (even if it doesn’t feel that way right now). I am committed to holding space for you to share, explore, and cultivate practices that help you live the life you want. Together, we will increase your understanding, develop compassion and acceptance, learn skills to better regulate your emotions, identify your needs, and change what is no longer serving you. I specialize in working with young adults, and with those who struggle with emotional dysregulation and histories of trauma.

My approach is gentle, collaborative, warm, and non-judgmental, and sometimes includes a little sprinkling of humour. I aim to connect with you on a human level, rather then from a place of being ‘the expert,’ because I also know what it feels like to struggle, and how much healing is possible within a safe and authentic relationship.  You can expect our sessions to be both exploratory (exploring your past, thoughts, feelings, urges and behaviours) and skills based (to increase coping and support movement towards your goals). Our first couple of sessions together will focus on getting to know you and understanding ‘the problem,’ before jumping into goal setting and discussing what approaches will be most helpful.

Qualifications: Nicolette Julien

I hold a Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology from Adler University. I am a Registered Psychotherapist in good standing with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario. I also am a member of the Canadian Association of Suicide Prevention. I have certification in Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, and have attended numerous trainings regarding the topics of trauma, anxiety, suicidality, LGBTQ+ issues, perfectionism and Narrative Therapy.

In therapy, I use evidence-based approaches tailored to your needs. The therapeutic modalities I use most are Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) and Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT). I also often incorporate Self-Compassion, Strengths-Based and Mindfulness based approaches into my work. I engage from a Trauma-Informed approach, meaning that I recognize trauma as being part of the human experience. I also strive to create an open and inclusive environment, and operate from an anti-oppressive lens.
